The Kodak EasyShare Sport C123 is marketed by Kodak as a robust, affordable point and click digital camera that combines the ruggedness of a cheap sturdy camera with the benefits and features of its more expensive counterparts. Kodak believes that the EasyShare Sport is ideal as both a starter camera for the young and adventurous and as a reliable camera of choice for the amateur snapper. Review on the Kodak Easyshare Sport C123 camera! IT IS WATERPROOF! :D
Kodak EasyShare Sport C123: The Pros
Build: One of the main selling points of the Kodak EasyShare Sport C123 is its build quality. Kodak have first and foremost sold the EasyShare as an all-purpose camera that can withstand rough treatment with minimal care. This is not to say it is indestructible – far from it. It will, however, stand up to the kind of energetic usage one can expect on a family day out.
Size: As you might expect from a camera that prides itself on its robust build, the Kodak EasyShare Sport C123 is a compact little camera. At 3.6 x 2.6 x 1.2 inches, it will comfortably fit in pockets and handbags. The small dimensions also enhance the EasyShare’s reputation as an ideal starter camera for young children. To further assist, the front face of the camera features a slightly elevated rubber grip to prevent potential droppings.
Waterproof: While many digital cameras claim to be water resistant, the Kodak EasyShare Sport C123 is thoroughly waterproof. Where a water resistant camera might not be damaged by the odd drop of water here or there, the EasyShare allows for complete submersion up to a depth of 10 feet, or 3 meters. This, combined with the previously mentioned sturdy build, makes the EasyShare an ideal companion for trips to the beach and pool alike.
Price: From prices starting at $80, the Kodak EasyShare Sport C123 is one of the cheapest recognizable brand name digital cameras on the market. The EasyShare is not going to take the kind of photos you might capture with a $400 camera – it doesn’t claim to. What it does claim to be is a value-for-money reliable camera to use on the go. On this, it cannot be beaten for price. The user interface is extremely simple, as you would expect from Kodak, but there are several options for choosing different settings for different styles of shot. For $80, you are getting an awful lot of well-built camera.
Kodak EasyShare Sport C123: The Cons
Performance: The Kodak EasyShare Sport C123 is not a high performance digital camera. It is the very definition of “point and click”. The EasyShare does not have image stabilization, meaning that often the slightest movement can result in slightly blurry shots.
The lens is a fixed focus lens, so for best results you should ensure that the subject of the photo is at least four feet away from the camera. The lack of autofocus does mean that the EasyShare is extremely quick at taking photo from an off position, but the downside to this is that the lack of autofocus will more often than not result in a poor quality photo unless you take your time when taking the shot.
Battery Life: Running on a pair of standard AA batteries, the Kodak EasyShare Sport C123 performs disappointingly when it comes to battery usage. The batteries provided on purchase are not rechargeable, and while the camera itself is reasonably inexpensive, heavy usage will result in frequent demand for new batteries. The EasyShare does not have a huge amount going on under the hood when compared to other digital cameras in the market, and this makes the short battery life even more noticeably poor.
Share Button: Named after this particular feature, the Kodak EasyShare Sport C123 makes use of Kodak’s Share button. The share button allows you to tag a photo on the camera after taking it. The next time you connect the camera to your pc, your tagged photos will be uploaded to your designated social media websites. This feature is decent in theory, but in practice people who upload photos to social media sites are not bothered by manually selecting the photos to be uploaded. It is a solution to a non-existent problem, and Kodak would have been better off including image stabilization or autofocus instead.
